Learning that works for Washington

Washington TSA Competition Results

CTE students from Yakima School District participated in the Washington Technology Students Association (TSA) State Conference held on March 27-29, at the Bellevue Hilton and Red Lion Bellevue. The conference was the largest in the history of the organization with 640 participants.  Kick-off comments were delivered by the Governor’s Senior Policy Advisor on Education, Marcie Maxwell.  Governor Inslee and Marcie Maxwell encouraged our members to continue to develop their STEM skills in preparation for careers in the various industries across Washington State.

David Martschinske from Focus Designs delivered the Keynote Address in which he stressed the importance of creativity and entrepreneurship.  On Friday at the annual WTSA Business Meeting, Erin Jones spoke to the members about working hard to be the person you want to be and not letting others tell you that you are not worthy.

Throughout the conference middle school and high school students competed in 57 events in Engineering, Robotics, Video Game Design, Leadership, and much more. These students delivered strong performances judged by industry professionals. The students received valuable feedback to use in the future as they explore and prepare for careers.

Students had the opportunity to explore their future at the annual WTSA Education Fair in which 18 post secondary programs were represented from apprenticeships to community & technical colleges and four-year universities. Students attended a TRI-Leadership series of training workshops to further develop leadership and employability skills.  In addition to these activities, students worked with Microsoft professionals and learned about app development in a hands-on workshop.
