YAKIMA, Wash. — Last summer, McClure Elementary educator Adelia Garza died unexpectedly, but her memory was entrenched in the school and the community.

As a Yakima School District news release put it, Garza was always “empowering her students to learn, ask and discover. She enriched their lives with her belief that math and reading are important … but caring and relationships are important, too.”
